ABOUT MY WRITING

Actually, I wrote "always already". I have loved poetry from a young age, found solace in writing and reading (and also loved being read to at school), experienced the passion of words and honed my writing practice over time. I also love the book as an object and therefore publish artist publications myself.

Poetry was my first love...

Yes, really.

My poems often capture fleeting moments and sensual observations; they serve as a kind of condensed diary, sometimes narrative, sometimes encoded. They come to me in different languages and I take them as they come - sometimes I translate them too.

Write a novel... I would love to do that, I always thought...

At the same time, I also asked myself whether I would really ever do that, because I had no idea how something like that was supposed to work. And I had no idea for a story either. Then all of a sudden there was an inspiration, a theme formed. I bought a non-fiction book to acquire hand tools. I did the exercises and little by little a character took shape. I started writing and the character came alive. Suddenly he told me the story. Suddenly I understood what the people who wrote novels were talking about. And suddenly I had written more than 250 pages.

I am currently editing this book.

I'm also interested in hybrid texts, fragments, blog posts, soliloquies as forms of "word-based" self-expression.

I would like to practice essay writing, I would like to write more letters, to read more out loud (it doesn't matter whether it's my text or someone else's), leave more poetry in everyday life and surprise others with it. I would like to combine my passions of walking and writing more, I would like to offer workshops where poetry is not analyzed to death but experienced with the heart and body as much as with the mind. I would like to convey more of the creative and transformative power of writing. I definitely won't get bored.

BIOGRAPHY

Chrischa Oswald (*1984, Pfarrkirchen/DE) completed her diploma in fine arts in 2011 at the University of Art and Design in Linz/Austria as Mag. Art. with distinction.

After that, alongside her artistic work and international exhibitions, she began to work as a freelance copywriter and editor (from Bollywood magazines to design catalogues, from translations to interviews).

Literature has always been her passion. In addition to her mother tongue German, she also writes in English; sometimes poems in Portuguese.

Selected texts have been published in German-language and Portuguese publications and in English-language online magazines.

Oswald has self-published two artist books of poetry (in Portuguese and English) and one book of poetic prose (inspired by walks). She is also the editor of a collaborative publication series in English, linking art and literature.

She is currently working on completing her first novel. Oswald currently lives and works mainly in Portugal and Germany.
